Affinity staff member Leah Whelan has been picked for a major international competition showcasing excellence in social care.
Leah, a support worker and acting team leader with Affinity, based from our Whalley Road property, has been chosen by her tutors at Burnley College to enter the World Skills Competition for Health and Social Care.
The competition is designed to ‘showcase and test the skills and knowledge required in the sector to deliver excellent social care.’
Organised by the National Skills Academy for Social Care, it is open to entrants who are studying, training or have recently completed an S/NVQ level 3 health and social care-related qualification.
Those taking part must demonstrate their skills in a live competition environment which involves both role play and theoretical knowledge, and they must show a passion for key social care values.
The college picked Leah, who is studying for a Level 3 apprenticeship, because of her exceptional, high quality work.
We are extremely proud of Leah, the work she has done and also the way she has represented Affinity and the Springhill Care Group. We are often approached by Burnley College staff who have fantastic things to say about us.
Live heats for the competition will now taken place between April and June. The competitors who achieve the highest scores will be invited to compete at the national UK final in November, and the winners from this second round will have the chance to compete at an international event.
Good luck Leah!
